Questions and answers
Everything people ask us most, in one place.
Getting started
What do I get for free?
A free membership, and it never asks for a card: three starter series (beginner, blues and soloing), the lesson of the week, selected jam tracks and a short preview of every locked lesson, with what unlocks each one. Your progress, saved lessons and practice notes keep your place.
I’m a complete beginner. Is this for me?
Yes. Beginners follow a step-by-step path from the first chord, and Jamz sets the pace and picks songs you’ll enjoy.
I used to play. Where do I start?
Tell us your goals and current experience. You can also use the optional three-chord self-check to choose a starting goal.
How much time do I need?
Choose the practice time that fits your day. Saved courses and practice logs let you continue at your own pace.
Acoustic or electric?
Either. The lessons cover both, and Jamz plans around the guitar you have.
How do I sign in?
With your email: we send you a link and a 6-digit code, so there is no password to remember. You can also continue with Google or Apple.
I can’t find the sign-in email.
Check your spam and promotions folders and search for GuitarJamz; the code is in the subject line. Links and codes work once and expire after about 10 minutes, so ask for a new one from the sign-in page if it is late.
Lessons and courses
Who are the teachers?
Twenty-plus working guitarists and teachers, led by Marty Schwartz, Brett Papa and David Taub. Each one teaches what they play every day, from first chords to master classes.
What styles and levels do you teach?
From your very first chord to advanced soloing: blues, rock, acoustic and fingerstyle, country, jazz, lead and rhythm, theory, and songs you actually want to play.
What is the difference between a lesson and a course?
A lesson is one video on one thing. A course puts lessons in teaching order, in modules, with practice targets and a clear finish line, so you always know what comes next.
Can I slow a lesson down or loop a part?
Yes. Every lesson has a speed control and an A–B loop, so you can take the hard bar at half speed as many times as you need, with the chords or the tab shown while the teacher plays.
Do I need to read music or tabs?
No. The teachers show every shape on camera and explain it as they go. Tabs and written notes are there when a lesson has them, never required.
Some lessons are older. Does that matter?
Good technique doesn’t expire; a blues shuffle is still a blues shuffle. And Jamz jumps to the part you need, so you never sit through a whole video for two minutes of it.
How is this different from YouTube?
On YouTube you search, scrub and guess. Here the lessons are organized into paths and courses, your progress is saved, and Jamz takes you to the exact moment of the lesson that answers your question.
Can I download lessons?
The videos stream on any device and are not downloadable. Many lessons come with files you keep: tabs, written lessons, ebooks and MP3 jam tracks.
Jam tracks and downloads
What are jam tracks?
A band playing a progression in one key, so you can practice licks and solos as if you were on stage. Each one shows its key, style and tempo, and you can download the MP3.
Can I use the jam tracks in my own videos?
For your own practice and playing at home, yes. Publishing or streaming a recording that includes our jam tracks or lessons needs our written permission first, so write to us.
Jamz, your coach
What is Jamz?
Jamz is the GuitarJamz AI coach: he has played every lesson we ever made and he’ll jump you to the exact second you need. Ask him anything about your playing: he answers from GuitarJamz lessons, points you to the exact lesson moment and gives you a practice step with a tempo to start at. He can also build your path around your goal.
Is Jamz a real person?
No. Jamz is our own AI coach, built on the GuitarJamz library: 2,500+ lessons by Marty, Tim, John and Papastache. When in doubt, he shows you the lesson.
Is this replacing the teachers?
No. Jamz is built on their lessons. They’re the teachers; he’s the coach who has watched everything.
What if Jamz gets something wrong?
Tell us the question and we’ll check it. Jamz can be wrong; the lesson he links is always the source of truth.
Are the lessons made by AI?
No. Every lesson is a real video lesson recorded by Marty, Brett, Tim or John. Jamz uses AI to plan your practice, find the moment you need and explain it, and his answers are always labeled.
How many questions can I ask Jamz?
It depends on your plan. Free accounts get a few questions to try him, and each Jamz plan shows what it includes before you choose it.
Does it really listen to me?
The optional pitch check estimates single notes locally in your browser. It does not grade your timing, recognize chords or send audio to Jamz.
Plans, payments and refunds
What does it cost?
The free membership costs nothing and never asks for a card. Courses are a single payment you keep; Jamz plans are monthly or yearly. Every product shows what it costs, what renews and its money-back terms before you pay.
What do I get when I buy a course?
Every lesson in the course and its files, yours to keep for as long as you have an account. One payment, and nothing renews.
Can I cancel? What about refunds?
You can cancel online from your account, any time, and we email you before every renewal: seven days ahead for monthly plans, thirty for yearly. Most of what we sell has a money-back guarantee: ask within the period shown on its page and we refund you in full.
How do I pay?
Checkout runs on Shopify and shows the payment methods available where you live. Any tax your location requires is added and shown before you pay.
Your account
Can I share my account?
No. An account is for one person, so your progress, plan and recommendations stay yours. If someone else wants to learn, they can start their own free account.
How do I download or delete my data?
In Settings in your account: download a copy of your data at once, or ask us to delete your account. The privacy notice explains what is kept and why.
I’m a lifetime member. What changes?
Everything you own stays yours. Claim your account from our email, or log in with the email you used before.
My old password doesn’t work.
The new site has no passwords. Sign in with the email you used on the old site and we send you a link and a code; everything you bought is there. If you used another email, write to us with your order details.
Devices and help
Is there an app?
Yes. One account works on the web and in the app, on your phone, tablet or computer, and your place is the same everywhere.
What do I need to watch the lessons?
A recent browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and an internet connection. The video adjusts to your connection, and you can slow it down or loop a part.
How do I get help?
Write to us from the contact page. You get a request number right away, and we answer by email.
